Building a Great Church, part 10 - World Missions - Outline
For the first twelve chapters of Acts, we see Peter and the beginnings of the Church in the Holy Land. Acts 13-28 shows us Paul and the expansion of the Church from Antioch to Rome. We rejoice at all the incredible miracles that happened in the first century, but in order to see miracles in our day, we must understand the amount of sacrifice it took for our early brothers and sisters to evangelize the world in their day. We will never see Bible results without Bible effort.

O’Donnells and Adams Visit Chicago and Strengthen the Church
Building a Great Church, part 9 - Third Missionary Journey - Outline
We were incredibly encouraged to have Chris and Kerri-Sue Adams, Mike and Pam O’Donnell and their children with us if only for a brief stay. These two couples have been so dear to Theresa and I over the past decade. They have been at the core of the building of a great church in Syracuse as well as the effort to plant our church here in Chicago, and God-willing, the DC planting this summer.

Building a Great Church, part 8 - Second Missionary Journey - Outline
I was listening to a Christian radio station last week and heard a woman that called in to play a Bible trivia game. She was asked to name the four gospels in a multiple choice format.
Mark, Luke, John and Matthew.
Acts, Luke, John and Matthew.
Larry, Curly and Moe.
Sadly, she picked #2.
We live in a world that is biblically illiterate. Even among those that fill churches every week, people just don’t study the Word of God. I feel so bad for this woman and all who have been told that they are saved by just praying a prayer, and yet they don’t know the basic teachings of Jesus much less the names of the four gospels. It is so important to know the Bible because it is our guide in this world and our treasure map to the next. I hope you are encouraged and challenged by this week’s sermon (you will find the audio above and the notes below).

Disciples and their families at the Washington DC Mission Team Retreat
Building a Great Church, part 7 - First Missionary Journey - Outline
Theresa and I had the privilege of joining Andrew and Patrique Smellie and the Washington DC mission team for an incredible missionary journey as we gathered for their church planting retreat which was held on the weekend of March 16, 2008 (see report on LA website). Upon our arrival in Washington, I was overwhelmed with a flood of memories. It was exactly two years earlier that we had met in Chicago with the dream to plant a church of sold-out disciples there. God has blessed us incredibly as we have now grown to 90 members in Chicago. It is a very diverse group and we are confident that God is going to use even us, the worst of sinners, to make disciples of all nations here in the Midwest.

Building a Great Church, part 6 - Paul - Outline
“And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” - Acts 2:47b
God continues to bless us here in Chicago. In the past eight days, God has added nine to our number! We are so grateful for the incredible team of disciples that He is assembling in our church, and we believe that He can use us, sinners that we are, to reach this city and this world. Pray for us to have the courage, strength, wisdom and humility to build a great church that will bring Him much glory and much fruit!

Building a Great Church, part 5 - Peter - Outline
This is a very important day in the building of the Chicago International Christian Church, as Roger Parlour, Pat Boea, Jay Shelbrack and Theo Dawson were appointed as our first deacons (1 Timothy 3:8-13). They, with the help of their wives will work to make sure the practical and material needs of the church are met as God provides.
Today, we will look at 3 more things that are absolutely necessary to build a great church.
Building a Great Church, part 4 - Great Conversions - Outline
To build a great church, there have to be great conversions. It has been very exciting this week, as Kierre was restored at our Sunday Worship Service, and then Roy was baptized at the leader‘s meeting that same day. Lisa was baptized at the Latino Bible Talk on Tuesday night and James was baptized at Men‘s Night Out on Wednesday. We truly believe that Anyone can become a Christian … Anytime … Anywhere!
In Acts Chapter 8, there are two great conversions that we are going to talk about in the message. I hope you will listen to the audio sermon above, and that by listening, God will give you great vision for your life!
Building a Great Church, part 3 - Tried and True - Outline
Acts Chapters 5-8
I have heard it said, “A faith that has not been tested, cannot be trusted!” When Jesus commissioned us to build a great church, He knew that our faith would be tested. I have also heard it said, “People are like tea bags … you don’t know what’s in them until you put them in hot water!” As we study the Bible today, we are going to see how our first century brothers handled the testing of their faith. God willing, it will prepare us to handle the testing of our faith!

Building a Great Church, part 1 - Outline
Dear Chicago Church:
The Tulsa church wishes to express our extreme gratitude to the Chicago church. It was a long weekend and the trip was tiring (They drove 14 hours in one day to be with us for our Winter Workshops). But it was a small price to pay for what we got. The lessons were powerful and moving.
