James Series: Spiritual Maturity, part 5 – Outline
James Chapter 3:2-12
A little spark set ablaze the whole city of Chicago in 1871. Let’s take a look at what the Bible says about how our tongue can also set ablaze the whole course of our lives.
- James 3:2 We all stumble in many ways. We’ve all said things we wish we could take back. Who is in control of your tongue?
- James 3:7-8 No man can tame the tongue.
- Psalm 141:3-4 Animals that cannot be tamed must be caged. Do the same for your tongue. It hurts the people closest to us the most.
- Proverbs 18:21, Proverbs 10:11 The tongue has the power of life and death.
- Other relevant Proverbs: Proverbs 18:2, Proverbs 25:11-12, Proverbs 26:17-28, Proverbs 27:2,5,6
- Ephesians 4:29-32 Build others up according to their needs.
- Ephesians 5:3-7 Be careful about taking on the “talk” patterns of those around you.
- Matthew 12:33-37 If you want to really tame the tongue, you have to go deep… to the heart.
