James Series: Spiritual Maturity, part 3 – Outline
James chapter 2
As our fellowship celebrates it’s 4th anniversary of “lighting a fire in Chicago,” as the bulletin you received this morning says, we will be looking at one of the most “flammable” subjects in religion: faith and deeds.
- James 2:14 You’re not saved by works. But you’re not saved without them either.
- James 2:17, 26 Faith without action is dead. What part of that is hard to understand?
- James 2:19 Demons believe there is one God. Of course, they are not saved.
- James 2:23 Faith and our actions make us God’s friend, like Abraham.
- Dead faith, without deeds won’t help you or anyone else. It won’t even get you through this life in a good way.
1) Faith- living faith- comes from personal conviction, not family tradition.
- Romans 1:1-5 We need “the obedience that comes from faith.”
2) Living faith has visible signs – it’s not just in your mind.
- John 14:12, 1 John 2:6, John 14:31 If you love God you work for God.
3) Living faith does not wait for the grave to say, “I’m saved.”
- 1 John 3:18 Love in action and truth. Don’t come to Church and say you love God, and then go and live however you want. God knows your heart.
- Phillipians 1:20 Those with living faith think: “To live is Christ.” Everything else is just window dressing.
- The true Christian wants to be involved in fruitful labor.
- Can you “just believe” in the work to be done at your job? No. You also have to do the work. otherwise, your boss will believe you need to get a new job.
- Ask yourself: Am I living the life? Or am I somewhere on the periphery of things not really doing the work of the kingdom?
