Ezra-Nehemiah Series part 2: It Has Begun – Outline

God wants disciples to settle and come together “as one man,” despite any fears.

Ezra 3:1-6
- Despite their fear of people around them, God’s people worshipped according to his word.
- Feast of Tabernacles: They lived in booths for a week long. Remembered how God has taken them from the desert and into the promised land. Take time to remember where God has taken you from. And where he can take you.

Point 1) A new day has begun.
- Does a new day need to begin for you?
- Until you get open about where you really are, you won’t change.
- Are you settled, or is there something you need to talk about?
- A new day is a decision away.

Point 2) A new team has formed.
- Even if you come back but are not settled, you will not be part of the team.

1 Corinthians 1:10
- Divisions in the church
- Agree with one another. No divisions among you. Don’t get bogged down in disputable matters. Be perfectly united in mind and thought. This is an appeal in the name of Jesus! Come together as one man.

Acts 15:36-41
- Division between Paul and Barnabus, over John Mark.
- Leaders push the team to do more, be better.

Acts 16:1-10
- Timothy didn’t biblically need to be circumcised, but he wanted on the team that could influence the Jews.
- Leaders delivered decisions for people to obey.
- Paul has vision. The rest (we) got ready to go, concluding that God had called us to preach.
- We need faithful discipling relationships that define you. Do you have such relationships?

Point 3) A new foundation has been laid.

Ezra 3
- The people rebuilt the altar. Rebuilding always begins with personal righteousness.

Matthew 6:33
- Seek first kingdom and his righteousness.
- Bible is God’s standard–God’s word.
- Every disciple must be totally committed.

Ezra 3:10-13
- When temple foundation was laid, people praised God with shouts of joy. Many of the older priests wept, remembering the former temple in its glory.
- Are you doing any shouting or weeping for God? If you’re not committed, you won’t do either. We need both.
