Mark Series, part 17: The Transfiguration – Outline

Mark 9:2-13
- This is one of the most awesome stories in all the Bible.
- Get a glimpse of glory on the mountain–Jesus was transfigured.
- Jesus had an inner circle: James, Peter, and John. If you get disappointed when your good work is not highlighted, fight the desire to be recognized (pride). Jesus should be recognized.
- Moses appeared with Jesus. Moses’ work was completed by Joshua. Joshua means “The LORD Saves.” Similar with Elijah and Elisha. Jesus’ work was prepared by John the Baptism. Jesus is the great closer. He finished the work by his death and resurrection.
- We have work to complete too: disciples with Jesus’ spirit called to make disciples.
- What are we enslaved to? American comfort? Prejudice? Thinking others are better or worse than you? We’re all going to stand before God.
- The civil rights movement changed the face of America. It’s going to take a movement to capture the world’s attention and evangelize the world.
- Gratitude and motivation for the cross is essential.
