While others thought her pet caterpillar had died, this child knew that a moth (new life) was coming!
Life Through Death – Outline
A caterpillar becomes a moth or a butterfly by an amazing transformation. At first, when in the cocoon, it looks dead.
John 12:23-28
- Kernel of wheat must fall to ground and die before it produces many seeds.
- Jesus embraced his plan to die and produce many seeds (disciples).
- God’s plan of new spiritual life starts with death.

- God wants us to die to our old life and live for him.
- It’s a struggle to die to self, but it is so needed to have new life.
- God called people to sacrifice much to plant our church.
- In the areas where you are most scared to die to self, that is where the most fruit will come.
- If you hold back from dying to self, you will not experience life in Christ.
- Can’t die 98%. Must be 100%.
- When you’re man-focused, you get easily irritated. When you’re God-focused, you respond righteously.
A time of remembrance and gratitude was shared about many of the amazing things that God had done here in Chicago when the church was planted three years ago. It takes much dying of self for these events to occur.
- Discipleship is the call to die to self. Discipleship is God’s plan to save your soul.
- It all starts with being willing to die.
Luke 9:23-25
- Deny self, take up cross, follow Jesus.
- The call from Jesus is to die to self daily.
Philippians 2:1-11
- Must be humble.
- Be warned: pride will stop you from following Jesus.
- Jesus made himself nothing. Humbled himself, became obedient to death on a cross.
- Therefore God exalted him to the highest place.
- This is the plan we have to follow: to die to self.
- God wants you to repent (die to self) and live!
