Jeremiah Series, part 2 – Outline

“Jeremiah” means “The Lord exalts.” Jeremiah was a voice for God that wouldn’t back down.
-Jeremiah 1:9 “The Lord touched his mouth.” He made him a speaker. The purpose of his ministry was:
1) to uproot, destroy, overthrow
2) To build, plant
To ever get to plant, there must first be an uprooting. It’s the same politically and spiritually. For God to plant and build there must be brokenness within us. Pride must be overthrown.
- Psalm 51:7 David felt like he was being crushed by guilt. God humbled him, and then built him back up. You cannot build your life spiritually until you’re broken.
- Romans 1:16-17 We feel inadequate, but the power isn’t in us, it’s in the message, the Word of God. Only as a broken vessel can we be used by God.
- Jeremiah 1:11 Vision of the almond tree. It’s the first tree to blossom, precursor to spring. God saying, ‘I’m watching and will bring prompt judgment on Israel’s sins.’ Branch = judgment.
- Jeremiah 1:13 Boiling pot- direction and nature of judgment: a calamity.
- Jeremiah 39:1 In 588 BC. How Jerusalem was taken. Fulfillment of what God told Jeremiah in 629.
- Daniel preached on the Kingdom of God. Jeremiah preached on the judgment of God.
- Jeremiah 1:17-19 God encourages Jeremiah for the task before him. God reminds Jeremiah that He is not a small God. “I will make you a fortified city.” You need a big God to get the job done. Do we have an accurate fear of God?

Ecclesiastes 12:13 The conclusion, is to fear God and keep his commands. This is the whole duty of man.
- Isaiah 8:11 “A rock that makes them fall.”
- Mathew 10:36 We better get this “fear” thing right.
- Philippians 2:12 work out your salvation with “fear and trembling.” Unrepentant sin is hatred toward God. Surrender and total commitment are needed. The person who walks away from God doesn’t understand God.
Jeremiah 1:19 God wants us to know that if we fear him and obey his commands he will always be with us.
