Roles in the Church – Outline

This lesson was preached at our Spring Congregational Devotional.

Romans 12:1-3 Offer your bodies as living sacrifices.
- Deny self. True worship is how we live.
- Don’t think of self more highly than you ought. Be humble. It starts with God’s mercy. If you receive praise, understand that God gives you abilities. God wants to use you in a powerful way.

Romans 12:4-8
- We form the body of Christ. Figure out your role in the church. Fulfill your role before God. Be grateful for the abilities that God gave you. Your role is important. Don’t strive to be different just to get attention. The only “different” you need to be is to be like Jesus.
- While there are different roles in the church, all disciples should be sharing their faith. Be evangelistic. Have the faith to share. Share because you love people.

5 different roles that we need to strive to be great at… (God needs us to know our role and do it well)!

1) Be a Bringer. No one is going to hear the gospel unless you open your mouth and bring people to hear the gospel.

2) Be a Converter. Study all the studies and baptize.

3) Be a Nurturer. Encourage, show mercy. Help the weak.

4) Be a Leader. Govern diligently. When the buck stops with you, lead faithfully.

5) Be a Giver (not a Taker). Contribute generously. Serve diligently.

Find out where you are specially gifted and “bring it.” Be willing to be trained.
- Use what God gave you and give him the glory when he blesses you.
- You can be an example for Jesus Christ, and the church can be inspired.
