Give Your Heart to God – Outline
An in-depth look at Psalm 25 and the heart — for women.
When the new year comes around we want to put our best foot forward and get off to a great start. What does that take spiritually? It takes giving our heart to God. Psalms is the longest book in the Bible and in it we see David’s love affair with God; his life was all about God. Perhaps God gave David so much face time because he had a heart after God’s – and it’s just that important that we do to.
Let’s listen to some of David’s heart:
Psalm 3:3, Psalm 4:3, Psalm 5:12, Psalm 6:2, Psalm 7:17, Psalm 8:1, Psalm 9:1, Psalm 10:15, Psalm 11:6,
Psalm 12:8, Psalm 13:6, Psalm 14:1, Psalm 15:1, Psalm 16:2, Psalm 17:6, Psalm 18:1, Psalm 19:14,
Psalm 20:1, Psalm 21:1b, Psalm 23:5, Psalm 24:1
Acts 12:22 God chooses the leaders of his people. David’s rule in Jerusalem represents the height of Israel’s glory. David was a man after God’s own heart.
Psalm 25 This Psalm may have been written after the events of 2 Samuel 24. David was conscience-stricken. Most Bible scholars believe David was around 75 when this was written, so we see that David had a tender conscience even at an old age. We can learn a lot by examining David’s heart toward God.
v.4-5 David wasn’t arrogant, even after decades of walking with God he doesn’t assume he knows God’s ways.
v. 6-7 He hadn’t been a perfect man or leader. Do we see our sin as rebellion toward God? We need to pray that God will give us a soft heart and sensitivity to our sin.
v. 16 Loneliness is common for leaders and disciples, but God is near.
v. 18 David recognized that the only thing that could tarnish, corrode, or ruin his relationship with God was his sin.
v. 21 David’s hope was in God. This theme is all over the Bible. We do what is right and good not because of what people will think of us, but because we want to please God.
David was conscience-stricken many times because he had a tender heart. Proverbs 28:13 – we need to confess our sins to God and one another. Proverbs 4:23 – we need to guard our hearts.
Psalm 73 – David lead with a pure heart and skillful hands. God will definitely use our skills and we do need to grow in them, but it all starts in the heart. The heart spiritually is where all our decision making happens.
