The Heart of a Champion - Outline
Most of us don’t think of ourselves as ”Champions!” We think, “I’m just an ordinary person with an ordinary life, and all the challenges of that life: rent or mortgage, high price of gas, daily routine, etc.” The truth is, we are all going through hardships. Our brothers all over the world are facing the same kinds of hardships (1 Peter 5:8-9), but thank God that’s not what our lives are all about anymore! We have been called out of darkness and into God’s wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9-10)! Satan is waging war on our hearts minds and souls, and I must convince you today that if you don’t have the “Heart of a Champion” you won’t make it to heaven.
On our own, it would be very prideful to think we have what it takes to overcome Satan and all that he will throw at us, but Romans 8:37 teacges us that, ”in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Without Christ we will never overcome, but with Him, we are more than conquerors!
Definition of a “Champion.”
1. One that wins first place or first prize in a competition. (Jesus teaches us that if you want to be first, you must make yourself last and serve others!)
2. One that is clearly superior or has the attributes of a winner: a champion at teaching. (We need you to know your strengths so that you can use them to serve in and build up God’s kingdom.)
3. An ardent defender or supporter of a cause or another person: a champion of the homeless. (This is the definition! We need to be an ardent defender of the Gospel.)
4. One who fights; a warrior. (We must fight for the cause of Christ.)
- 1 John 5:4 “Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”
- This is very controversial.
- Jesus’ teaching on the Narrow Road.
- Matthew. 7:13-14
- These scriptures scare me to death!
- We have to wrestle with this teaching to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
- Only a few will find the narrow way.
- Many will try and not be able to enter.
- We want to broaden the narrow way, but Jesus didn’t!
- We want it to be so easy, but it’s not! We must fight!
- Watch out for false prophets! (Love the false prophet but hate their sin.)
- By their fruit you will know them.
- Luke 13:22-33.
- He was going to Jerusalem to die for us.
- Are only a few going to be saved? Am I going to be saved? Are my friends?
- Make every effort to enter through the Narrow Door!
1. The “Heart of a Champion” is a heart that is willing to do whatever it takes!
- Jesus tells us to make every effort … whatever it takes!
- Away you evil doers.
- Jesus owns the house, and we must enter on his terms.
- No one who makes it to Heaven will be suprised when they get there!
- Many will be surprised when they wake up in hell!
- How did I get here? I knew about Jesus and I went to church and tried to love my neighbor, sort of.
- People will come from the East, West, North and South. (World evangelism.)
- What is your heart towards Jesus’ teaching of a narrow doo … Freaked Out or Fired Up? Freaked out because you are not on it or your family is not on it or dead family not in it. Others are fired up because we get a chance to be on it and tell our friends and loved ones how to get on it.
- How narrow is the road?
- Psalm 14:1 The fool say’s in his heart there is no God. (So the Atheist won’t make it.)
- Exodus 20:3 You shall have no other gods before me. (So the Polytheist won’t make it.)
- I believe in one God, so I’ll be on the Narrow Road, right?
- No, in John 14:1-6 Jesus says He is the only way to the Father.
- I live in America, so I believe in Jesus and I’ll be on the Narrow Door, rigtht?
- No, John 8:31-32 teaches us that only those who obey Jesus’ teaching will know the truth and be set free!
- John 3:1-7 Jesus says you must be born again. If you have never made an adult decision to be born again, you are not saved.
- Acts 2:38 says that through Faith, we must repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of our sins and to receive the gift of the holy spirit. If you just pray Jesus into your heart, that’s false. That will not save you.
- Matthew 28:18-20 teaches that we must be a disciple when you are baptized or we are not saved.
- Jesus must be Lord when we are baptized or we are just getting wet and we are not saved!
- In Revelation 3:14-22 Jesus tells us that He wishes we are either hot or cold because we know if we are hot or cold, but when we are lukewarm, we are deceived and don’t know it!
- Wait, you mean not all disciples are saved? Right. Not everyone who is in a good church is saved! Jesus says that he will spit us out. The “Spiritually Cold” know it and the “Spiritually Hot” know it, but the lukewarm does not know where they stand. They think they are rich and don’t need a thing, but Jesus says they are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked! Without a humble heart, that will offend you.
- If I’m not hot according to Jesus’ definition, please love me and help me.
- Those I love, I rebuke, so repent.
- I’m here knocking. If you are in a lukewarm church, you are in a dangerous situation. Jesus is outside of a lukewarm church. He’s not in it. We have kicked Him out and want to do it our way. We have to get a conviction how wicked and evil a lukewarm church is.
- That’s the narrow road. Are you on it or are you freaking out.
- For some, it’s time to get in a study and get baptized.
- If you are a disciple and attending a church, but not sold out (Loving the Lord with all your heart) you need to do what you need to do and do it quickly.
- This is all about love. Get involved and help us! We don’t have time to waste! How are you doing loving everyone?
- Many people’s view of Jesus’ teaching of the Narrow Road is that it must be a cult!
2. The “Heart of a Champion” is a heart that won’t quit!
- Rev. 2:7, 11 … Overcome and you won’t be hurt at all by the second death.
Rev. 21:6-8 … The cowardly, unbelieving, etc. will be thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, the second death. This is very controversial! - If you are going to win the battle against sin in your life; if you are going to be victorious in marriage, raising kids, relationships, saving souls, etc., you are going to have to get the ”Heart of a Champion.”
- If you don’t have that kind of heart, then you need to get one. You need to go to someone that has that kind of heart and ask them where they got it and go get it. (Ezekiel 11:19 / 18:31)
- If you need a Humble Heart, ask Dre Walker where he got his.
- If you need a Disciples’ Heart, ask Anthony Franklin where he got his.
- If you need a Servant Heart, ask Bob McMurray where he got his.
- If you need a Caring Heart, ask Jay Shelbrack where he got his.
- If you need a Faithful (Unwavering) Heart, ask Roger Parlour where he got his.
- If you need a Committed (Single-minded) Heart, ask Joel Parlour where he got his.
- If you need a Sacrificial Heart, ask the mission team that came here to plant this church where they got theirs.
- If you need a Servant Heart, ask Pam Boea where she got hers.
Matthew 21:43 “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.”
- Jesus has the “Heart of a Champion.”
- Jesus was a champion. Jesus is the champion. Jesus is our champion.
- God wants us to be “Champions” of the lost and produce the fruit of His kingdom.
