Our Response to God’s Call to Surrender – Outline
You can’t claim Christianity and just do whatever you want. You must surrender. You are either fighting God or fighting with God.
Luke 14:25 Cost of following Jesus
Surrender means “to give up.” You need to surrender everything to Jesus. That’s what he says.
People called by God to surrender
Genesis 22 The righteously fearful heart – quick to obey
- God tests Abraham
- Abraham did not withhold his son from God. What are you withholding from God? Abraham had a righteous fear of God.
Exodus 3 The hesitant heart
Moses and the burning bush
- Wants to understand everything first, weak faith and trust
- Are you hesitant when God calls you
- Conflict is part of following Jesus. Without conflict there is no change.
Jonah 1 The rebellious heart
- Jonah runs from God when called
- Jonah was eaten alive by the fish. What must God have to do to you to humble you? Jonah prayed once he was humbled.
- When God rescues Jonah, he preaches and a whole city repents.
- Then Jonah gets bitter and angry.
- It is hard to get surrendered. Yet it is even harder to STAY surrendered. But we must.
Matthew 26 The surrendered heart
Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane
- Prayer got Jesus through the hard times.
Whichever heart you have, you must surrender it to God.
