Sisters Strive for Christ-Like Unity
The following are notes used to teach a women’s class on unity. You’ll find that both men and women will benefit greatly from applying these godly principles.
John 17:6-19, 21-22
- The main manifestation of Jesus being one with God needs to be our level of unity vs 11, 21-22
- It is like the human body – every cell in the human body is designed for every other cell. The whole purpose of each cell is to enable all the other cells to perform at their maximum level. The only cell known to exist for itself is a cancer cell, and it eventually destroys all the others. (Are you being a cancer cell?)
- If all the power from the human muscles were directed in the same direction, a person could lift 25 tons – that is the power of unity!
Ephesians 5:21
- Our role is to submit our ideas, etc. to one another, to the group, with a focus of Christ-like unity.
Philippians 2:1-11
- In humility consider each other better than yourselves
- Llook to the interest of others first
- Make yourself nothing like Jesus did, a servant
1 John 2:9-11
- Love = Agape: to treat as precious, to value, respect, to be devoted to
- Loving on another is having unconditional love and not pulling back from each other when we are disappointed by relationships (1 John 4:10) love is to love when you are not loved, to be the first to love. Real love does not have to be reciprocal.
- Hate = the absence of the deeds of love, the failure to deny oneself, the unwillingness to lay down one’s life for a brother (John 15:13), considering yourself first (1 Corinthians 13:5)
- Whenever a brother (or sister) has need and one does not help him, then one has, in fact, hated his brother (or sister).
- Love will express itself in concrete actions, love unexpressed is not love at all. When it is absent, hate is present.
- If you really love your brother/sister, nothing they say could make you stumble or make you love them less (vs. 10)
- A spirit of teamwork comes from a sacrificial, unconditional love for each other
- So do you love or hate your brothers/sisters? (John 13:34-35, 1 John3:16)
Hebrews 13:17
- As a team we need to learn to follow
- Every team has a coach who calls the shots, every army has a leader who gives the commands
- In war, if somebody questioned the commands it could cost somebody their life
- Its about unity. You may have a better idea, but it is more important to maintain unity and work together (so rally behind your Bible talk, ministry, and church leaders!)
2 Peter 1:3
- He has given us everything we need for life and godliness
- Remember, you made the decision to make Jesus the LORD of your life!
- Remember the cross, this must be your main motivation
