Which Came First, the Chicken or the Egg? – Outline
Are you hungry for the fruit of God? If you are wondering what you need to do first in order to be fruitful, this sermon is for you.
John 15:1-10
How to be fruitful
Fruit comes from God
Jesus is the true vine
Do you want to be fruitful? Remain on the vine.
How do you remain on the vine?
Obey Jesus (verse 10). Obedience is challenging.
Matthew 28:19-20 Obey
Obeying is the key to being connected to Jesus.
Obey what?
John 15:10-17
Love others as Jesus did. Lay down your life.
The key to be fruitful is love others like Jesus. Love the people that live with you and the church and others around you and strangers. Love is more than an feeling. It is a command, an action. You must love the new Christians and the old Christians (and the middle age Christians). For baby Christians, take care of them with love. They will grow and God will bring you more babies. Fruit comes from God, not you.
Galatians 5:22-23 The fruit of the spirit is part of being a disciple.
Galatians 5:16-18 Live by the spirit. Be led by the spirit. It is a command. You have the potential to live by the spirit or by your flesh. You have to deny yourself to live by the spirit. If you are not fruitful, you haven’t been loving people.
Which came first, the chicken or the egg? God loved us first. We need to imitate his love, and we will be fruitful.
