Church Growth, part 2: Labor Prompted by Love - Outline

Mentoring is more than a buzzword. Combined with love, mentoring can change the world one person at a time. In the church we have another word for it: discipling. Churches that apply discipling become model churches.

1 Thessalonians 1:2-8
- Labor prompted by love
- How to become a model church

Point 1: Labor is hard work.
Deuteronomy 6
- God gives laws so the people can fear God and enjoy life.
- Takes all your heart

Deuteronomy 8
Follow all the commands so you may live. The heart is to obey God. The desert years were to humble and test you… to know what is in your heart.

Job 23:10
- Have the resolve that when God tests you, you will come out as gold.

Judges 2
- Be broken by your sin. Weep over your sin and repent. Don’t be stubborn or trouble will come.

Point 2: Love does whatever it takes.
- Like Moses’ mother. Later Moses did whatever it took to take people out of Jesus.

John 13:34-35
Jesus did whatever it takes for us to have salvation. He lived and died for you. Jesus is the ultimate mentor.

Matthew 24 Love grows cold
- When love grows cold, it doesn’t do whatever it takes anymore. Jesus put God and his church above his physical family. Sentimentality and fear and compromise don’t do whatever it takes. Love does whatever it takes.

When things get complicated, love.
