Emotional Investment - Outline

Are you having an emotional year? Is Jesus emotional? Let’s learn how Jesus handled intense emotion.

Hebrews 5:7-9
- Jesus came to God with intense emotion (loud cries). But he was heard by God the Father because of he submitted to his father.

Luke 8:40-56 A Dead Girl and a Sick Woman

- Jesus emotionally invested in the people he worked with.

- He was helping sick and even dead people. Do you have the faith to believe Jesus can heal you.

Matthew 9:35-38
- Jesus had compassion on the people in the crowds, because they were harassed and helpless. Do you have compassion like that for the people? What are you doing about the lost? If you are not touched by the pain in the world, you are disconnected.

Reasons why we’re disconnected: Living in Comfort and Lack of Vulnerability

- We’re comfortable and ignore the condition of God’s house.
- We don’t want to be vulnerable and get help.
- How much equity do you take for your emotions?

2 Samuel 13:1-19 Amnon’s Lust for Tamar
- Satan wants to use our emotions against us. Your emotions will take you wherever you want to go, unless you are disciplined and get advice.

Jeremiah 17:9
- Heart is deceitful. Don’t simply trust your heart.

Psalm 51:2
- How do you deal with sin?
- Attitude you need to have about your sin: when you sin, it is against God. The reason why people don’t repent is because they don’t understand that their sin is against God.
- Sin is not a bonfire; sin is a wildfire. You can’t contain it without God and repentance.

Emotional Returns

Daniel 9:1-11
- Daniel understood from the scriptures. The standard is the word of God.
- Since our emotions are ever-changing, we need a standard that won’t change: the Bible.

Jeremiah 20:9
- Is the Bible in your heart like a fire? It needs to be.

Daniel 9:3
- Turn to God in prayer and petition. That is where Daniel invested.

Daniel 9:17-23
- Daniel pours out heart to God. Do not delay. As soon as he prayed, an answer was given. You need to petition God with that heart.
