Do You Want to Get Well? - Outline

John 5:1-9 Healing at the Pool

Jesus asked the invalid of 38 years, “Do you want to get well?” How about you?

- Don’t take your life for granted. Look at life through the eyes of people with disabilities. Are you grateful for your health. Jesus cares for people with disabilities. What do you grumble about?

John 5:14 After Jesus heals the man…
Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you. When you’ve been made well, you tell everyone what Jesus has done for you.

Sin is deliberate disobedience to the known will of God. Sin is a condition of estrangement from God by such disobedience. Isaiah 59 shows that sin separates us from God. The only thing worse that being separated from God is being separated from God for eternity. Do you want to be separated from God for eternity?

2 Kings 5 Naaman Healed of Leprosy
- Naaman, a gentile, was a great man but sick.

If you want to get well, you have to…

Point 1) Get real about where you are.

- Are you prideful? Do you get advice? You can get well today if you get humble.

2 Kings 5:10-12
- Naaman got angry with the advice. His pride kept him from getting well.

Point 2) Entrust yourself to God’s messengers.

- That’s making disciples and ongoing discipling.

- Naaman thought the power was in the prophet, but the power is in God.

- Naaman also thought the power was in the water. But the power is in God.

2 Timothy 2:2 Disciples entrust the message to reliable men, because the message is important.

- God wants to use you right now, not later.

2 Kings 5:2-4 God uses a slave girl to get the message out.

Acts 17:10-12 In Berea

Point 3) Test what you hear with the scriptures

John 17:16-26
- Test Jesus’ words. Do what it says and you will know it’s from God.

Point 4) Unleash God’s power in your life.

Colossians 2:11-14
- At baptism if you have faith, when you are forgiven of your sins, Christ circumcises you spiritually.

2 Kings 5:15 After being healed, then Naaman is healed and preaches.

Point 5) Proclaim God’s power to the nations.

Luke 4:14-30 Jesus rejected at Nazareth

- When you start proclaiming the truth, there will be drama and opposition. If people reject the message the won’t be healed. Jesus reminds the people of Naaman’s healing and he was a gentile.

- The path to God is through obedience.

The points spell “GET UP.” So if you want to get well, it’s time to get up, get out and proclaim Jesus’ name to the nations.
