Discipleship Is God’s Plan to Save the World - Outline

Genesis 1:28
- Be fruitful. God had a plan for the earth.

Genesis 6:5-6
- Lord was grieved that he made man
- His heart filled with grief (led to flood)

Hebrews 11:7
- By faith Noah… in holy fear built ark to save family.
- Do you want to save your family? Do you have time to obey God? If you want to save your family, have heart to save the world. Don’t be selfish. Build a spiritual ark.
- Noah condemned world by faith.

John 3:16-21
- God’s plan: saved through Jesus. God gave his son.
- What are you willing to give to save others.
- People are lost because of their sin. They will perish if we don’t throw them life preserver (gospel).
- This is verdict. Jesus has come. People are afraid to have their deeds exposed. Their in darkness. Trust God. Get open with your sin. We are sinners.
- What is God’s current day plan to save world, since the word is the judge (John 12:48)?

Matthew 28:18-20
- Make disciples, baptize them, teach to obey.
- Discipleship is God’s plan to save the world… through relationships.

2 Timothy 2:22-25
- What kind of relationships will save the world? Flee evil desires of youth. Pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, pure heart.
- There will be opposition. Gently instruct.

Two things you have to do to have relationships that save the world.
First…
1) Be kind to everyone.
Definition of kind: Friendly, warmhearted, generous. Not resentful.

Definition of resentment: indignant ill will.
Forgiving is the antonym of resentment.
- We must be forgiving.

2 Timothy 3:1-5
- Selfishness will keep you from being kind. So will the rest of the sins listed here: lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control…
- Have nothing to do with these people.

Kindness does not mean “peace peace” when there is no peace.

2 Timothy 2:14-18
- Avoid godless chatter. Spreads like gangrene.
- You can tell a lot about someone’s relationship with God by what they talk about. What do you talk about? Are you fellowshipping with false teachers? Are there stupid arguments going on in the church? We need to talk about what’s important. Christianity is not a simply a club. It’s a unifying mission.

Second thing you have to do to have relationships that save the world.
2) Be able to teach.

1 Timothy 1:3-7
- Goal of godly teaching is love.
You need to know what you’re talking about if you want to teach.

Titus 1:9
- Refute those who oppose sound doctrine.

- If you claim to be a Christian, yet you are not trying to be kind to everyone and trying to teach others about Jesus, you are not a Christian.

2 Timothy 3:10-12
- If you are a true Christian, you will be persecuted.
- Many are deceived.
- Discipleship is God’s plan to save the world, to be kind to everyone and to be able to teach. This is God’s church. Do you want to be part of it?

- How do we teach? Be hard on the standard, and easy on the people. Love one another.
