The Prophet’s Edge – Outline

Are you on the cutting edge?
- It’s the place where every disciple needs to be.
- On the brink of innovation
- Paul’s letters have an edge to them.
- The prophets have an edge to them.

Point 1: Have no regard to the consequences (of preaching the truth)

Jeremiah 26:1-24
- He preaches.
- They threaten him with death.

Jeremiah 38:1-6
- People throw him into a well.
- That doesn’t stop him from preaching.
- Do you consider consequences when preaching?
- Don’t cop out when preaching.
- Don’t “wonder” if you should preach. Just preach.

Jeremiah 20:9-12
- What kept Jeremiah going?
- The word. It is in my heart like a fire.
- Commit to God’s cause.
- You should be fueled by the word.

Point 2: Prophets on the edge need mighty challenges.

1 Chronicles 11:10-14
- David was young when he became a prophet.
- Led mighty men (warriors)
- Make each encounter powerful
- Find your “David” and stick by him, for spiritual battles.

1 Chronicles 11:15-19
- Three mighty men risk their lives for their leader.
- Loyalty: Find someone and serve them.

Matthew 20:26 – Least will be greatest

1 Chronicles 11:20-25
- Benaiah: A mighty man with bravery.

Challenge: Share your faith with the most intimidating person.

Point 3: A prophet on the edge has true compassion.
- You’ve got to have true compassion.

Isaiah 63:7-8
- God has compassion.

Matthew 9:35-
- Jesus has compassion.
- Why? It’s because people were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
- Jesus did something with his compassion.
- Turn compassion into action.

1 John 4:16-21
- Love is an action.
- Must love God, must love one another
- Jesus laid down his life. It’s an action.

Matthew 22:34-40
- What sums up a prophet?
- Love God. Love people.
- Love must involve telling the truth.
- Don’t be afraid to tell people the truth.

Revelation 19:10
- Worship God.
- Testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
- If you are a true disciple, preaching Jesus, you are a prophet. Is that how you share your faith? We need to do so.
- If you’re not living on the edge, you’re taking up too much room.
- We have to be as edgy as the prophets. Get that edge.
