God’s Church, the Pillar & Foundation of the Truth - Outline

This Christian sermon answers the questions: what, how and why about the church.

Church is group of people called out for a common purpose.

Ephesians 3:1-13
- Gentiles and Israelites in the church are one body.
- Christians administer God’s grace.
- God is counting on the church to do this. Why?
- So wisdom of God is known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms.

We have three questions to answer.

Question 1: What is God’s church?

1 Timothy 3:14-15
- God’s household is the church of the living God
- Church is the pillar and foundation of the truth.
- Your relationships reflect who you are.

Question 2: What does it take to build God’s church?

Acts 18:1-6
- Paul makes tents for a job, then Paul exclusively preaches when Silas and Timothy arrive. Silas and Timothy supported Paul.
- We need full time people in ministry.
- When opposed Paul shook out clothes in protest.
- Toughen up
- Build church on the truth.
- Persecution will come.
- When someone loves the truth, you can tell from their life.

Acts 18:7-17
- After rejection, Paul doesn’t go far. He goes next door.
- Crispus and family are baptized.
- We persuade people to build church.
- People turn and beat Sosthenes. Later this Corinthian is converted (1 Corinthians 1:1).

Question 3: Does it matter if I go to church?

Hebrews 10:23-25
- Don’t miss church.
- We must communicate.
- Consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
- Spur is sharp. Truth can hurt.
- Motivation must be love.
- And deeds. So have goals.
- Expect ever member to be at all the meetings of the body to spur one another on.
- Have consistent discipling time.
- Commit to Jesus and his body, the church.
