Unity - Outline
John 17 contains an intense prayer. This is just before Jesus is arrested and then crucified.
John 17:10-18
- Jesus imitates the Father. We imitate Jesus.
- Discipleship = imitation which brings unity
John 17:20-23
- Disciples should be as united as Jesus and the Father are united.
John 17:25-26
- It’s about love.
- Be totally committed to Jesus. The byproduct is unity.
- Then Jesus is arrested.
Unity definition:
State of being one
State of being in accord or harmony
State of having parts into a whole
Singleness or constancy of purpose or action
Philippians 1:27-30
- If you’re united with Jesus, there will be some suffering.
James 2:1-10
- Favoritism kills unity.
A) It’s not who you are, it’s whose you are. “Who’s your daddy?”
B) It’s not what you have, it’s what you give.
C) It’s not where you’re from, it’s where you’re going.
Acts 4:32
- Too often we love things but we use people. A disciple needs to do the opposite.
Luke 16:9
- Whatever things you have, use them to make disciples.
1 John 2:3-6
- We must imitate Jesus. Walk as he did.
